Saint-Valentin Day lesson – les phrases de drague
Celebrate St. Valentin in your Core French and/or French Immersion classroom this season with this Saint-Valentin French pickup lines activity.
Please note that this resource is a French Valentine’s day lesson for high school French language students. This French pickup lines lesson is bound to make your groan and giggle!
This Saint-Valentin activity is set up in three parts
- Before you begin the lesson, your students with explore new French vocabulary and sentence structures they may not be familiar with. The goal of this handout is to decrease overwhelm and to scaffolded and prepare your French language students.
- The lesson – you will project the Google Slides. As you go through the slides, your students will record the English translation of each phrase de drague on handout #2. There are 30 total slides in the slideshow.
- Finish the lesson by having your Core French and/or French Immersion students write their own silly French pickup line.

In this activity, students explore six Valentine’s vocabulary categories:

- Love songs
- Gifts
- The word ‘love’ in different languages
- Famous couples in film
- Valentine’s colour
Their task is to find out which category a specific French vocabulary word belongs to know which colour to shade in that vocab word. Answer keys have been provided to make this task seamless for you and your students.
