Decolonizing the French classroom

Bonjour cher prof!

My name is Pav and I am the creator behind FLE avec MmeD.

I am a Punjabi woman who was born and raised in Canada to immigrant parents and grandparents. During my French undergrad I noticed that there was very little representation of non-white folks throughout my entire French education (high school to university). The French-speaking world is so diverse – our students need to see and learn all about this diversity.

I am incredibly passionate about helping French teachers prioritize anti-racism, representation, and diversity in the classroom.

I want students of all walks of life, especially in the French classroom where there is less representation than the English classroom, to be represented. I am going to show you how you can do this in an engaging and meaningful way without adding stress to your (overflowing) plate!

You are in the right place if you are a Core French or French Immersion teacher looking for ideas, inspiration and vetted resources for the French classroom.

In my second year of teaching, I would spend hours looking for resources to use in my classroom. The resources I would find were always too challenging and too boring for my students! Consequently, I began to create my own resources. I quickly realized that I was really passionate about creating innovative & engaging materials for FRIMM & FSL classes.

I teach French 8-10 in British Columbia and I love my job and my students. I am obsessed with erasable pens (goodbye Flair and Inkjoy) and I am vegetarian who loves trying out new Punjabi recipes.
