5 French Podcasts for the French Classroom

If you are a Core French or French Immersion teacher looking for French podcasts for the French classroom, you have come to the right place! Here are my top French podcast picks for the French classroom!

French with Elise – a podcast on French culture

Themes & topics : French culture (pigeons, Claude François, etc)

This podcast is ideal for : beginners, kids

First up is a podcast on all things French culture!

Elise is a fellow French teacher & friend who is originally from France, but now lives in Oregon, U.S. She has created a podcast for beginner students all based on facets of French culture.

Also, Elise’s storytelling is charming and so kid-friendly! These episodes are mainly in English and teach beginners vocabulary related to the topic discussed.

She also has comprehension worksheets that go along with each of the podcasts!

Kiffe ta race

Themes & topics : race, equality, equity, critical thinking, intersectionality

This podcast is ideal for : advanced French Immersion students (Grade 9+)

Kiffe ta race is a French podcast that discusses everything race-related in France. If you know anything about racism in France, you know that race in itself is a very taboo topic. Therefore, this podcast is breaking all of the rules and constraints that French society and French institutions put on BPOC.

Finally, Kiffe ta race has a few episodes in English. I use these with my intermediate Core French students. If you’re interested in learning more, please read my blog post where I share in detail how I teach my racism in France unit to my Grade 10 Core French students.

Banh Mi Podcast

Themes & topics : Asian francophones, their achievements and the difficulties they encounter.

This podcast is ideal for : advanced French Immersion students (high school)

This next French podcast for the French classroom is all about celebrating Asian francophones and their achievements! These podcasts are excellent if you are looking for listening comprehension activities where people describe themselves in detail.

Aalaapi, faire silence pour entendre

Themes & topics : perspectives autochtones, vivre au nord, sciences humaines

This podcast is ideal for : French Immersion

Aalaapi is a beautiful podcast where the listener gets to experience the sounds of nature found up north.

In this trilingual podcast, listeners experience a virtual tour of life up north. In addition, we are introduced to five different Indigenous people from different northern regions. The speakers share their experiences living in the south as Indigenous peoples and their challenges in pursuing their education.

This podcast episode is long. For that reason, I actually recommend breaking it down to 15-minute chunks if you intend to listen to it in class.

Asiattitudes

Themes & topics : racism, tokenism, a lack of representation, intersectionality

This podcast is ideal for : advanced Immersion

This is a podcast by Asian francophones all about Asian empowerment and the anti-Asian racism that Asians experience in France. What I love about this podcast is the diversity of the interviewees. It includes Asians who are South Asian (who are often not included in Asian representation), trans people, non-binary individuals, etc!
